Michael Jackson in $200 Million-plus Recording Deal with Sony

Of course, it’s a bit ridiculous. Michael Jackson’s dead, and his estate and Sony are capitalizing on his name. I just hope Prince, Paris and Blanket get the majority of the profits — but a lot of this money is going to go to operating expenses (like lawyers) in running his estate. And MJ of course seeing none of this since he is gone. Sad.

“Michael Jackson” is now a brand. And ironically, he is no longer around the destroy his own name or add any more to it’s legend.

From Billboard:

The estate of Michael Jackson has landed the late King of Pop the biggest recording deal in history: a $200 million guaranteed contract with Sony Music Entertainment for 10 projects over seven years.

The record-breaking contract through 2017 could be worth up to $250 million if certain conditions are met. One of the albums will be of never-before-released Jackson recordings that will come out in November

The King Of Pop's Estate Gets A Record Deal Summing Up to $250 Million

(Pic designed by me)

Even in death, Michael Jackson is breaking new records.

The King of Pop’s estate has signed the biggest recording deal in history: a $200 million guaranteed contract with Sony Music Entertainment for 10 projects over seven years, according to a person familiar with the deal.

The record-breaking contract through 2017 could be worth up to $250 million if certain conditions are met. One of the albums will be of never-before-released Jackson recordings that will come out in November, the person said…

via Yahoo! News

One of the projects already counted in the contract was the two-disc album that accompanied “This Is It,” the film based on footage of concert rehearsals for what was to have been Jackson’s comeback at London’s O2 arena.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement is expected later Tuesday.

Future projects may also include a video game, a DVD compilation of videos and a rerelease of “Off the Wall,” Jackson’s fifth studio album, which first came out in 1979, accompanied by some unreleased material. Before his sudden death in June at age 50, the pop star had wanted to reissue the album, people familiar with the deal said.

Including the more than 5 million copies of that special release, Jackson has sold some 31 million albums since his death, about two-thirds of them outside the United States.

“During his life, Michael’s contracts set the standard for the industry,” said John Branca, the co-administrator of the Jackson estate, in a statement prepared for release Tuesday. “By all objective criteria, this agreement with Sony Music demonstrates the lasting power of Michael’s music by exceeding all previous industry benchmarks.”

Rob Stringer, chairman of Sony Music’s Columbia Epic Label Group, said in prepared remarks, “We’re dedicated to protecting this icon’s legacy and we’re thrilled that we can continue to bring his music to the world for the foreseeable future.”

The landmark deal is worth more than all other benchmarks, such as the all-encompassing rights deals that concert promoter and ticket-seller Live Nation Entertainment Inc. had previously signed withMadonna at $120 million and Jay-Z for $150 million.

Jackson’s deal is even more remarkable because it does not include royalties from merchandise.

The contract shows the value of legacy artists. It also comes at a time of decline for the music industry, with sales down about half from their peak in 2000 mainly due to free file-swapping.

The money will go a long way to settling Jackson’s debts, estimated at around $400 million when he died. But the singer whose life was plagued with scandal has had a resurgence in popularity in death.

Distribution rights for “This Is It” were sold to Sony Pictures, another unit of Sony Corp., for $60 million and the movie went on to gross $252 million worldwide, the most of any concert film ever.

Revenue from that, song sales and merchandising agreements brought into the estate revenues of about $100 million, lawyers for the estate’s administrators told a Los Angeles Superior Court judge in December, when they sought a percentage as an administration fee.

The Walt Disney Co. even brought back the 17-minute Jackson movie “Captain EO” to its Disneyland theme park in Anaheim last month. The original began running at the park in 1986 but was pulled in 1997.

Jackson’s most lasting and valuable asset is the 50 percent stake in Sony/ATV Music Publishing, a company that owns publishing rights to music by The Beatles and numerous other artists, including Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Split with Sony Music, the copyright catalog itself is estimated to be worth $2 billion.

The new financial windfall comes even as circumstances around his death remain in legal limbo.

Dr. Conrad Murray faces an involuntary manslaughter charge for allegedly giving Jackson a lethal combination of sedatives. He is due back in a Los Angeles court April 5.

An Elderly Man, Am I

I understand change, and I enjoy it. Progress transformed the rotary phone I used in my childhood, an expensive device rented from the phone company since they were too pricy to own, to the relatively inexpensive, portable, cellular phone. The VHS tape of poor quality and deterioration with each use has been replaced by Blu Ray discs; high quality, amazing sound.

When it comes to music, however, I am quite happily a curmudgeon. I was raised on records, and I believe they will hold a special place in my heart until the day I die. There is something about the physicality of a vinyl recording; placing the needle on the edge, listening to the pre-song pops and whistles as it settled into the groove is a much more interesting ritual than double-clicking a mouse and streaming a song to your computer. The artwork on a cardboard sleeve was part of a record’s overall charm—the enormity of the prism on Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, the freak show that was KISS on their first hit album, ALIVE—the cover art meant something back then; it was big, and hard to dismiss.

The rise of Compact Discs in the 1980s was an important leap forward for music; digital recording capabilities created a seemingly limitless sonic canvas to paint upon. Listen to Achtung Baby with headphones; the layers of sound are delicately nuanced and amazingly interesting. Unfortunately, the smaller size of a CD meant that the cover image became a little less important; instead of a big picture that could contain subtleties, the picture now had to be entirely to the point immediately. Even worse, people could buy carrying cases and ditch everything but the disc itself. One step forward for the recording process meant three steps back for the physical representation of a musician’s art.

Napster was another important leap for music. Anyone old enough to buy records can tell you many a story of having been burned by someone who put out a twelve-track record where only the single was worth listening to. You wasted your hard earned money for one song and got pissed; pick up Nelly Furtado’s first, self-titled CD for proof. Beyond the two radio tracks, the album is so awful it is unlistenable. Napster was great payback for a consumer burned by bad purchases. iTunes then advanced the idea the song was more powerful than the album. Instead dropping $13.99 for one good song and eleven mediocre tracks, you could quickly grab what you liked in an individualistic manner.

But for the old school among us, there still exist artists who create records that have a shape and flow to them. Bands that form an emotional arc with their album, making the narrative as a whole more important than the singularity of any one song.

To me, Peter Gabriel is a musician of such caliber. When he rears his oft-hibernating head, I tend to take notice and am interested in hearing what he’s up to. When I heard he quietly slipped a new CD into the market on March 2nd, I was surprised. There was no advertising, nor seemingly any advance notice of the release. I full-well understand the Peter Gabriel of 2010 is not the one of 1986; today’s generation finds it more interesting playing “Guess the Gender” with Lady Gaga than buying appealing music, and there’s nothing I can do about that. But when I entered into a Best Buy store and only found one “Greatest Hits” CD available under the Peter Gabriel placard, I was disappointed. Though he is no longer selling millions of albums, he is a big enough name to be pushing a few people to the stores. Hell, the fact he appeals to old farts like me who still buy CDs should be enough to stock some titles under his banner. But it was not to be; I asked a store employee for help, and he dutifully typed the name “Peter Gabrail” into the store computer and came up with no hits. I shook my head sadly at his ignorance, then took his G.E.D. hand and helped him correct the spelling. It made no difference; the store did indeed not contain any new Peter Gabriel releases within its walls.

So what did they carry? Plenty of “This Is It” material—CDs, DVDs, Blu Ray—by Michael Jackson.

Oh well. Maybe one day Peter will play “sleepover” with a bunch of boys, dangle a baby from a balcony, and die of an overdose. Then he’ll be a musician worthy of attention.

If The Glove Fits, You Must Acquit?

Fashion Spot

After attending just about everything for a period of a month or so, Stephanie went on a bit of a red carpet hiatus.  She was back at it when she attended the Radar Online One Year Anniversary Party.

We’re not sure what’s going on with the outfits at this event.  Stephanie did her best Michael Jackson Thriller glove, while the Heidi Montag look alike wore a black leather dress with pink floral print shoes that tie at the calf.

We’re not sure if the glove gets Stephanie acquitted of a fashion crime because it’s daring or if it convicts her for going too 80’s?

My Semicharmed Musical Life

Now, I know that some people will say that they constantly have music playing in their head and just burst out into random song all the time. However, the majority of these people are playing in the minor league compared to myself and others that surround me. Why? It’s because our lives tend to be overly musical at times (well, overly musical to normal people hence forth to be referred to as “normies”).

At any given time during the day whether wandering from my car to class, in class, at the tutoring center I work at, or at any number of businesses that are in our small town, I might burst out into song. Let me tell you it is a fun and exciting thing to do because it breaks up the monotony of my day. It helps me have a more bright and sunshiny day, and I hope that others around me feel the same way. There’s just something about it that is very freeing…if you’re free to sing in random places, to me it says that you have self-confidence and that you throughly enjoy music. Music to me is meant to be experienced in many ways. Whether it’s singing with a choir or breaking out with “The Phantom of the Opera” at Wal-Mart, it makes me happy.

Now, another thing I will say, having an “I don’t care what others think” attitude is good if you do sing in public places because sometimes the songs floating through your head that come out might be a little risqué. One day, I was walking through Wal-Mart when I burst out in the song “Sweet Transvestite” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Nothing will get you more looks than this in rural Tennessee or if you start singing Evita in a room full of Argentinians.  It can make you feel awkward, but at the same time, I just roll with it. I don’t make excuses as to why I do it. So, now, most people accept it and even joke about it.

I am a living musical….all genres come into play: country, pop, rock, musicals, r&b, etc. I am a treasure trove of random music across generational gaps and other barriers. I love my music and wish to share it with the world. If the world isn’t ready for it, they still “can’t take that away from me”. So, people you can love my nuances or just “beat it”.

Michael Jackson - True Style Icon

I am eagerly awaiting a moment when I am free for a few hours to sit and relax in the comfort of my sofa and view my latest purchase. Micheal Jackson – This is it. I am a true true fan and have been since I discovered his great music, style and moves at the age of 5. After seeing the advertising I am most excited about the Costume Featurette so we can see the work that went into making the Icon amaze and certainly dazzle on the tour of the century.

As a proud holder of pretty pricey tickets to the much anticipated This Is It tour I was shocked and deeply saddened by Michaels’ untimely death at the age of 50. This was it for me. It was my chance to see my icon and what a show it would be. After seeing this is it in the cinema, sitting at my computer on the day of release to book those tickets to view the show that never was , I sat in awe with a depressing edge….this really was the show to end all shows.

Micheal was a true icon of style as well as musically. When can another man carry sequins and rhinestones so convincingly as his signature look..truely a man after my own heart. His flamboyant take on military, that Rhinestone Glove, the red leather jacket from Thriller, Leather straps in Bad…..He is and will forever be an ICON.

This has to be one of my favourites…paired with the Ray-bans Aviators shielding out the world he works his style endlessly

MJ Forever

Please be sure to leave a tribute on his website in their bid to make 1 Million Tributes to Micheal Jackson.

The Greatest Show on Earth. MICHAEL AND ILLUSIONISTS 2009. Part 5

As we learned from Part 2, according to the words of Jack WISHNA Michael suddenly refused from staging the show in Las Vegas and decided to sign 50 concerts with AEG.

Mass media constantly spread the rumors that Michael has some negotiations with this or that illusionist (the full list of the illusionists is given below in chronological order).

DAVID COPPERFIELD

FILES
The official site of Copperfield

Twitter http://twitter.com/D_Copperfield http://twitter.com/d_copperfield
As far as I can understand the record starts on July, 3rd?

Facebook http://www.facebook.com/david.copperfields
MySpace: www.myspace.com/magicofdavidcopperfield

Quotation:

“When I was a child my I was a fan of Peter Pan: I tried to always think about good, I jumped on my bed but I could never fly. Probably David Copperfield is still a little boy deep in his soul, who can fly just as Peter Pan.”

What connects him with Michael?

In 1997 David Copperfield showed up in a movie Michael Jackson: HIStory on Film – Volume II.

He also starred in Liberian Girl video.

According to mass media, he was going to prepare some numbers for This Is It, but the friends couldn’t agree upon the price.

However, it turns out that the rumors are a 1st April’s joke!!!

"IS DAVID COPPERFIELD WORKING FOR MICHAEL JACKSON?
Not according to Chris Kenner. Various online news outlets appear to have been caught up in the April Fools Day shenanigans which pop up every April 1st. Everyone from Yahoo News, MTV UK and Perez Hilton have been reporting stories along the lines of, "Michael Jackson is a huge fan of magic and has enlisted the help of illusionist David Copperfield to add some magic to his upcoming run of concerts in the UK." David’s producer and friend Chris Kenner told us by phone today, "I don’t have any idea where this came from. I have been getting hit with emails all day asking about this and there have been no such discussions." WHEW… I’m glad that we waited for secondary confirmation before posting anything.
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 02:21PM"
Don’t you find it strange? It looks like an attempt to trail a red herring across the path.

CRISS ANGEL
FILES

People say that in April Michael visited the show of Criss Angel “Believe”.

«Magic fan Michael Jackson is all set to attend the Cirque du Soleil show Believe starring Criss Angel on Saturday night at the Luxor. The King of Pop heads into Sin City for the Mindfreak’s show of theatrical illusions, and seats have been reserved in case his children tag along, too!
Additional hotel security is said to be on hand to deal with any rush of fans, and Michael will be brought in through a special side entrance directly from his limousine. It’s expected that he will arrive seconds after the curtain has gone up on the show to avoid audience distraction, and he will be taken to Criss’s dressing room backstage seconds before the show ends.

http://itricks.com/news/2009/04/michael-jackson-to-attend-criss-angel%25E2%2580%2599s-believe-this-weekend/
Steve Flynn, public relation consultant of Criss Angel, denies the possibility of Angel’s cooperation with Jackson.

Nevertheless, Criss continues to send some signs which point at his connection with Michael.

This is the last avatar Angel used on his Twitter.

Here people discuss the picture itself.  http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=199268739413

This is Criss Angel’s profile picture on twitter. What does this remind you of? With the chin, cheeks, nose, eyes, lips and of course the crown the skull resembles the King of pop. it could mean "our dead King is very much alive".

– The eyes are living eyes,
– The little "cut" in the chin (reference to Michael?) means "flesh" and not "bone".

- So, the crown ties everything together: Hey everybody, yeah, you think Mike’s dead, but look behind your "obvious truth”: his death is only an illusion.

The twitter has not been updated since March 13  http://twitter.com/alonzoed

And he has a very suspicious status "ALIVE"
www.michaeljacksonhoaxdeath.com suppose that it can be a sign about a well-planned action
As a result Michal invited Ed Alonzo to prepare the show.  So who is he?
The guy is pretty interesting, he doesn’t possess that demonic attraction of Copperfield and Angel, but he is a clown-magician, who actively involves some comedy sketches to his performances. You can see it for yourself if you watch that funny man at WMA 2008.

«The Misfit of Magic is a fitting title for magician, comedian and actor Ed Alonzo. Ed was named "Best Comedy Illusionist" on the 2008 World Magic Awards and is a featured performer on Episode 3 of Masters of Illusion. Ed began his career in magic as a member of both the Long Beach Mystics and the Junior program of the Magic Castle. Ed Alonzo won the coveted "Stage Magician of the Year" for two consecutive years, and "Comedy Magician of the Year" for another two consecutive years from the internationally recognized Academy of Magical Arts. Ed’s unique blend of vaudvilian comedy and such bizarrely staged illusions as "Great Rack" and the "Invisible Baby Elephant" make Ed a truly unique character.»
http://www.linkingpage.com/magicnewsfeed/2009/1/19/mnw-81-ed-alonzo.html

He gains more popularity after collaboration with Britney Spears for her Circus Tour Show. There are many different articles in press about it. As far as I understand Alonzo participated in Britney’s show himself.

Michael invited Ed 6 weeks prior to June 25.

«Amongst widespread rumors and denials from both Criss Angel and David Copperfield’s camp with regards to their alleged involvement in Michael Jackson’s forthcoming O2 concert gigs, E! has confirmed that illusions are indeed being designed by Ed Alonzo (who has most recently worked on Britney Spears’ Circus Tour) for use during the shows. Of the collaboration, Alonzo told E!: "I met with Michael Jackson a couple of days ago and am now officially creating magic and illusions for his concert. I will not be performing in the show as I do with Britney. I’m just creating the magic that Michael has requested in his vision… Michael has two routines in mind so far using magic elements that I am creating. I have to show him a demo of the effects next week. Then the props are to be built and he will start rehearsals. I will teach him the effects and help in staging them." Michael Jackson has forever been a fan of magic and has used illusions in previous concerts.»
Here are some comments to this news from people who hear about this guy for the first time in their lives http://www.mjfanclub.net/mjforum373/archive/index.php/t-4032.html&prev=

It looks as if his career is going up. In June 2009 “Magic” writes about Ed and his participation in Britney Spears’s Show.

Here is some news report from May 2009.

All Ed Alonzo – All Day

Yesterday was Ed Alonzo Day at the Magic Double-Wide we call home here in Mystic Hollow, Michigan.

We were cruising the web and getting up to date on all things magic when we read Inside Magic Favorite, Ed Alonzo will create the magic for Michael Jackson’s 50-date run in London.

Wow, that says a lot for both Ed Alonzo and Michael Jackson.

Ed Alonzo is famous within the world of magic, but is not yet a household name like David Copperfield, Li’l Tom Hardy, or Criss Angel.

Plus, he seems profoundly normal and decent.   There were no rumors of his dating or not dating Britney Spears either before or during his current employment with the bombshell that is Ms. Spears.

The postman came by and made some comments about our need to cut back on the magic magazines if we ever hoped to get out of debt.  He held three of our magic journals in one hand and a stack of bills in the other.

We thanked him for his unsolicited advice, slightly whistling through our broken incisor at just the right pitch to summon our playful pit bull – Doberman mix, Big Tom.

The uniformed know-it-all dropped the bills and magazines on the cedar chip path that winds from the access road to the front of our metal but homey abode.

Big Tom brought over this month’s Magic Magazine with pride.  He left the bills where they were scattered on the walkway.

There in the oppressive jaws of our puppy was Ed Alonzo.  Mr. Alonzo made the front cover of Magic Magazine.  How cool and synchronistic was that?

We considered the odds that we would have read about Mr. Alonzo signing with Michael Jackson and then receiving Magic Magazine from our dog in a condition that it was still readable, and that Mr. Alonzo would be on the cover of the magazine.

Plus, he wrote the article about his work with Britney Spears in the article teased on the cover, “How I Ran Away with the Circus.”  That might be a coincidence too, that there would be an article about him and he happened to be both the author and subject.

Our brain was not meant for statistics so we rounded the odds to about 50:50 — it would have happened or it wouldn’t have.

Regardless of our inability to calculate the coincidence of three or four independent events, Mr. Alonzo’s recent fame outside and inside the world of magic is impressive.

Our father, Li’l Tom Hardy once opined, “Who ever said good things come to those who wait, never waited for a prostate exam.”

Mr. Alonzo has not just been waiting around for fame to find him.  His hard work and creativity now make him the go-to person for the big acts.

It couldn’t have happened to a better person.  Congratulations, Mr. Alonzo!

http://www.insidemagic.com/magicnews/2009/05/20/all-ed-alonzo-all-day/

Alonzo was one of those who were in touch with Michael not long before June 25

Says Ed Alonzo, the "Misfit of Magic" who created illusions for Britney Spears‘ Circus tour and joined Jackson’s show six weeks ago: "It was an amazing show. The thing was just days away from being perfected. It was incredible. Even though it was just a walk-through with the dancers, his moves were dead-on — the same Michael Jackson we (saw) through the years in music videos."

When Jackson kicked off what turned out to be his final rehearsal, he donned a headset microphone, strolled to an elevated platform and launched into his 1991 hit Dangerous— first a cappella, then with the band.

"He wasn’t singing full-out, but he was singing," Alonzo says. "They ran the number a couple of times and started to bring more props onstage that he looked at for the Thriller number. Every song he was doing was not just singing, but surrounded by huge production — gigantic spiders and 20-foot puppets. I feel I was so blessed to see the only performance of this concert."

Jackson appeared underweight but not sick, he says.

When they hugged, "he felt very thin," Alonzo says. "Even the first time I met him, 20 years ago at Neverland (Jackson’s ranch in Santa Barbara County, Calif.), he was thin. So it didn’t strike me as odd, other than he seemed fragile. But his energy and the way he moved and spoke had a lot of impact. His soul didn’t seem fragile at all. This is just a thin guy."

Alonzo had designed dazzling effects for the show, including a glass sphere that would float around Jackson during the opening song, 1982’s Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.

The globe was designed to light up and grow brighter as it drifted over the crowd before landing in Jackson’s palm. Jackson’s instructions, according to Alonzo: "I want people to scream for miles."

For a splashy version of Dirty Diana, Jackson wanted a flaming bed with a pole-dancing aerialist "playing the part of the fire," Alonzo says.

The elaborately plotted stunt: Jackson intended to be pursued around the bed by the "fire woman," and each time she touched the stage, flames in the form of fluttering crimson fabric would shoot skyward.

After she caught him, she would lash him to the bed’s tall posts with gold rope and a sheet of red fabric would billow before him, illuminating his struggling silhouette.

When the sheet fell, the magic trick would be triggered — the woman would be revealed as the one ensnared, and Jackson would materialize on a stage in the center of the arena.

Questions:

1. Why has Michael chosen Ed Alonzo, an obscurity, instead of world famous Copperfield and Angel? Can it be lack of budget or anything else?

2. Why does Alonzo always willingly write on MySpace about his collaboration with Britney and not a single word about his cooperation with Michael? He has worked with Michael for six weeks and it could be a good chance to promote himself once again remembering the latter King, but Ed practically doesn’t mention Michael. There are no photos of him with Michael on MySpace, no any reference. All the interviews were taken after June 25. On his official site there is only a little banner directing you to the page where all the articles about his participation in This Is It are posted.

Dragonfly: “Moreover, on his official site you can see Celebrity Photo Album and find his photos with David Copperfield (!) and Criss Angel (!). There are several photos with Britney Spears (!). And there is none with Michael Jackson!!!

Can it be that working next to Michael he has never tried to take a photo? None of the artists would refuse from such a chance. Everyone needs promotion!

It is obvious that at the moment the highest achievement of his career is working with Britney Spears. But who is Britney Spears in comparison to Michael Jackson? An imitation pearl compared to the diamond.

Maybe he is upset that it didn’t work out and he doesn’t want to mention his might-have-been hopes? But then he could have just said how good Michael was, how nice it was to talk to him and so on… It all makes me think that Ed Alonzo has never worked with Michael. He hasn’t ever seen him in person. Nothing else comes to my mind…”

The rabbit gets Alonzo out of hat

I managed to get into Alonzo’s facebook friends’ list.

There is only one notification of Michael in the beginning of October – he posted trailer to the movie and wrote:

"As most of you know, I worked with the great Michael Jackson designing magic for his tour. Look closely and you will see me in the clip holding hands with the cast on the sad day."
He says about this moment. But it is very short.

And there is ONLY five comments under this post!!!

And that’s it. Generally there is Britney, his own performances and the whole album (!!!) dedicated to FarmVille!!!
"Ed found a sad, lonely black kitten on their farm. Oh no!
Ed was farming when a sad, lonely black kitten wandered onto their farm in FarmVille. She’s been searching for her lost friend who likes to hide inside of Jack-O-Lanterns. She feels very sad and could use a new home and help finding her friend."

Dragonfly: “There is no name of Ed Alonzo in the list of those who worked on This Is it Movie. Here is the list http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1477715/fullcredits#cast. He is not in the list. It means that if he was there with Michael and Ortega, he did something but not for the film… or not FOR THIS film…”

So now we know that Ed Alonzo was an official illusionist of This Is It, but for some reason he is not mentioned in the crew.

We also know that he keeps silent about his part.

Ortega’s interview:

Question: Are there any musical numbers which are not in the film because they were not recorded?

KO: Yes, hmm, yes. The day Michael died we were waiting for him to work on Dirty Diana, to finish Dirty Diana, when he vanishes in the haze and then suddenly appears on the other side of the stage on the lift to sing Beat It. He was waiting for this work so much. The day before that he told me that he was very happy. He saw that his dream was coming true on stage. There was one thing he wanted me to tell the crew and the dancers: “I love them. Everyone is doing a great job. I love you, Kenny. See you tomorrow. Thank you.” He left and we were inspired. We came the next day and we were all on stage. We were eager to work with illusionists, with technicians. Daniel, an air gymnast, and Tony Testa, a choreographer who substituted Michael, were with us then. We were making everything ready to the moment he comes. It had to become on of his favorite days, because he liked magic. And when we got the news, everything stopped.

Cool Caricaturist - Court Jones!

Court Jones’ Caricatures are bold and they push the boundaries of exaggeration beyond the edge of the cliff! He is a distortionist who manages to remain a caricaturist, making his creations swing between fun and ridicule!

Here are some links you should click to appreciate my eulogy.

  1. Abraham Lincoln
  2. Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal
  3. Michael Jackson
  4. Barack Obama
  5. Sylvester Stallone

And the best of all is the verbal-visual caricature of Court Jones himself. While you are at this link, you can also browse through the list of his awards (it’s a long one!)

Its gettin HOT out here... =..='''

During this Chinese New Year season, my hometown Penang in Malaysia is getting extremely hot weather. I cant believe I have to post this, no drops of rain for nearly 3-4days straight OMFG!

The heat is getting hotter and hotter by day, I drove a Peugeot 206 which is black in colour and thankfully I’ve installed the Solar Gard window films. You can easily feel the heat burning deep into your skins, although I wont mind that I’m getting Tanned :P But my arms and shoulders are severely visible having 2 tones due to wearing short sleeves uniforms throughout the day…

This is what I recorded at my dashboard yesterday during 3pm in the afternoon…41degress Celsius OMFG!

This is due to our mother Earth is getting sick of Global Warming effects! This is a serious matter that we all have to face together and let us start doing something before its too late!

Our north/south pole are melting…

A nice and cute ad that I google, and wanted to share with all my blog readers, wonder what we’ll wear in the near future…

We should use less plastic bags and recycle more!

In Penang, We’re practicing “No Plastic Bag day” in all Hypermarket for every Monday-Wednesday. We have to bring our own recycle bags for our daily groceries shopping. And you guys who don’t, should bring your own recycle bags for your shopping too…

The first step starts from the man in the mirror…MJ you lives forever in our hearts~!

“I’m Starting With The Man In The Mirror,
I’m Asking Him To Change His Ways,
And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer,
If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place,
(If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself, And Then Make A Change…” by Michael Jackson, King of Pop.

Facebook embracing the mobile web

With the ever growing popularity of smart phones, major internet sites such as Facebook are looking to make it even easier for people to access their sites on the move.

Facebook has become an internet phenomenon over recent years so it is no surprise the site is taking steps forward to make Facebook more mobile phone friendly. Although Facebook does currently have a special phone friendly site, it is now launching a new service – Facebook zero.

Facebook zero is a text only version of the site – making it easier to load up in areas with poor mobile phone and 3G coverage. This will enable those in rural towns and remote locations to easily access the service.

With Facebook becoming such a major source of news for many people – how many people found out about the death of Alexander McQueen and Michael Jackson through status updates? – this could have an influence on how people access news on the go. People who may not have had instant access to news whilst they were out and about can now log onto Facebook and keep up to date with the latest happenings. This will not of course replace the main sources of news in these remote areas but it will enable people to communicate and spread information in a much quicker fashion.

MUSIC REVIEW: We Are The World 25 For Haiti (song/video)

Somehow I knew that this remake was going to result in a fair share of tears and hate. Tears from those who truly appreciate it’s message, and hate from those who looked past it’s message to criticize the artists involved. After watching the video and hearing the song, I was pleased. Of course it is not better than the original (why should it be?), and some parts were added to reflect the changes in our music culture, but for the most part it was a well-done remake which got a lot of support and raised a lot of money for Haiti.

After reading through some message board postings about this song, I’ve summarized some complaints below and responded to them. It is worth reading if you’d like a common sense perspective.

Top Public Criticisms Of “We Are The World” Remake:

1. They ruined the original! – Nobody ruined the original! The original is still there and will always be there for your listening pleasure. People always say this when horror movies and other classic films are remade. If remakes were meant to be better, the originals would never be labeled as classic! You can’t remake a classic and expect the new one to be classic as well.

2. They should have never let Lil Wayne and auto-tune be a part of this! – When the original song was made 25 years ago, they picked some of the best artists of that time to make it happen. They did the exact same thing for 2010. Whether you love him or hate him, Lil Wayne will always be remembered as one of the best artists of our time. His presence in the song reflected his presence in the music industry now. Auto-tune has become so popular that they even made a Super Bowl commercial with it. How can you remake a song for 2010 without adding elements of what’s popular in 2010?

3. They should not have added a rapping part! – Again, this remake was meant to be created in light of what is going on in 2010. Rap was barely even invented when the original was made. If Michael Jackson were alive today I am almost certain he would have requested a rap segment to be added. Why are we so embarrassed of our musical advancements in the last 25 years?

4. They didn’t pick any ‘real’ talent for the solo parts! – I agree that some of the solo parts could have been done better by others, but most of them were good, and most were done by Grammy winners, and platinum and gold selling artists. If we are giving Grammys and awards to people without talent then something is wrong with us, not the producers of the song or it’s artists!

Also let’s not forget that Quincy Jones was involved in the production of BOTH versions. He had a lot of say in how this song was constructed and I respect his vision in remaking the song. Whether your favorite artist was in it or not, or if you think you could have made it better is pointless discussion. This track was created for a good cause and I hope that cause is not overlooked by those who wish they were still living in 1985.

Let’s CELEBRATE our musical advancements in the last 25 years and the fact that we as consumers have chosen which artists are currently in the spotlight. It is the consumer who buys the music and concert tickets. If you don’t like the artists who are hot now, find someone who is and PROMOTE them to the world so that they will take over the spotlight. Or just pick up a microphone and do it yourself. Enough hate.

SONG GRADE: B+
